Summary

Spire is seeking a Construction Engineering Intern. This position will be a paid internship and will be responsible for assisting construction engineers design and estimate components of the natural gas distribution system including regulator stations, take points, and transmission.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Opportunity to rotate between various engineering assignments to potentially include:
  • Assist with correspondence from Construction and Leak & Maintenance foremen, general foremen, civic inspectors, External Affairs, and other departments regarding the status of jobs and projects.
  • Assist with correspondence from outside the Company (municipalities, engineering firms, developers) to process the needed information to coordinate the Company’s facilities with proposed improvements and development.
  • Prepare necessary paperwork related to the Company’s procedures for gas main and service work as required, including utility agreements and other documents.
  • Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities to reduce the impact of proposed improvements to the Company’s existing facilities.
  • Review the design and cost estimates for all types of main and service work; review delivery pressures; and justify proposed main work.
  • Research legacy asset information and reconcile company records and mapping
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • None

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student and will be a Junior or Senior or currently a master's level at an ABET-accredited school in Fall 2023
  • Current major in Engineering discipline
  • Cumulative GPA 3.0 or above

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Time management and planning

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Normal Work Environment – Work is normally performed in a shared office environment.
  • Typically, 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Overtime and/or travel may be required.
