Medical Device Development Engineer

Juggernaut Life Sciences LLC (https://www.juggernautlife.com/), a spin-off from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and founded by an interventional radiologist at the hospital, is currently seeking an experienced, Medical Device Development Engineer, to design and implement surgical robotic systems and other innovative medical devices, from initial concept to commercialization, in collaboration with world class physicians and engineers.

This is a full-time position. Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for design and builds of innovative, robust, and reliable minimally-invasive surgical robotic from early concept to release into production.
  • Responsible for supporting development of other innovative medical devices.
  • Translate clinical needs into detailed technical specifications.
  • Research and integrate new technologies and materials by utilizing technical knowledge and understanding of complex ideas, concepts, and theories.
  • Hands-on prototype development of the robotics and medical devices solutions.
  • Conduct feasibility and reliability test for robotics and medical device parts to evaluate designs and to define specifications in accordance with regulatory safety standards.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers from different disciplines, such as mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineers.
  • Create documentation including requirements, design inputs, risk assessment, drawings, and test results.
  • Provide documentation of inventions for patent applications; review alternative technology IP as it relates to the design process.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, and Biomedical)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in design of medical devices and product development
  • Robotics design with modeling and analysis using FEA or similar experience is required
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, rapid prototype design environment
  • Experience in new product design and development including conceptual design efforts, making appropriate modifications throughout the design process
  • Experience working on materials such as polymer, metals, and ceramics
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to others in different functions and at various levels

The initial appointment is for one year with opportunity for renewal based on performance and continuation of funding.
