Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) provides services that help to define and improve the quality of life in Denver. DOTI is responsible for road maintenance and repair; residential trash, recycling and compost collection; design and construction of streets, bridges, public buildings, and storm and sanitary sewers; transportation and parking services; oversight and regulation of use of the public right-of-way; and implementation of the Public Works Environmental Management System (EMS).
The Transportation & Mobility Planning Team at DOTI is seeking one (1) enthusiastic and highly motivated intern to join the team on a variety of planning projects. The Transportation & Mobility Planning Team is responsible for implementation of the Denver Moves plans,
Vision Zero Action Plan
and
Denver Moves Everyone
, which set the vision for Denver’s transportation future of “moving people.” The team works with neighborhoods, residents, organizations, and elected officials to safely and efficiently move people walking, biking, rolling, taking transit, and driving throughout the city and provide choice in mobility options.
The Transportation & Mobility Planning Team is seeking to hire a current student who is interested in pursuing a career in planning. This internship is focused on assisting Project Managers and Planners with implementing recommendations from Denver Moves: Bicycles, Denver Moves: Trails and Pedestrians, Denver Moves: Transit, and the Vision Zero Action Plan by collecting and analyzing data, managing multimodal safety data, working with spatial data in GIS, and engaging the public through open houses, office hours, pop-up events, and other community outreach efforts.
This position may require interaction with the public, riding public transportation, and being outdoors (field research, public events, etc.). Students with an interest in planning, transportation planning, and public engagement are encouraged to apply. This position is mostly onsite with possibility of remote work occasionally, however mostly onsite.
This opportunity is a part-time internship, averaging up to 30 hours per week with the ability to start an internship immediately upon provision clearance. This will be a hybrid schedule with some onsite, field, and remote work and subject to change as needed.
As an intern you will have the opportunity to experience:

Supporting the Vision Zero and Bicycle/Pedestrian, and Transit planning teams in delivering planning reports and conceptual designs

Assisting Project Managers and Planners in producing various documents, including graphics, maps, reports, presentations, and spreadsheets

Assisting in gathering data (including field research) and conducting analyses
-
Helping prepare for and attending internal and public meetings, and
-
Other supporting tasks as requested by Project Managers and Planners
About You
Our ideal candidate will have/be:
-
Currently enrolled in a Master’s Program in Urban Planning, Architecture/Design or directly related field
-
Interest in planning, bicycle and pedestrian transportation, transit, and Vision Zero principles
-
Knowledge of Denver (e.g., transportation, land use, long range planning)
-
Experience with using Geographic Information Systems, Microsoft Office (specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Suite programs
-
Possess excellent writing, verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills
-
A self-starter with the capacity to take initiative
-
Positive attitude
-
Critical thinker with a strong attention to detail
-
Proven successful at working collaboratively with others as well as working independently

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
