Zimmerman Associates, Inc. is seeking a Metadata Librarian for a one-year project for an agency located in Washington, D.C. This position will support a year-long analysis of the content of a repository containing federally funded research and provide recommendations for systems and metadata enhancements. This is primarily a remote position with potential periodic travel to the customer site.

Responsibilities include:

This position will be part of a team examining systems, processes, and methodologies for identifying, acquiring, processing, and making accessible agency funded and authored research, performing research, and reporting on the results, including change recommendations. Other duties include

• Evaluate current descriptive metadata and recommend standards
• Review and assess existing metadata workflows and recommend enhancements
• Perform searches in databases, repositories, agency systems, and other resources to identify agency funded publications
• Download metadata from searches, clean, and normalize the data·Write scripts to facilitate comparing and matching search results and repository metadata
• Analyze search data
• Recommend enhancements to existing and new workflows
• Prepare detailed statistical reports
• Assist in the preparation of written reports

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of metadata used to describe and access scholarly publications
• Knowledge of metadata standards and schema including MODS, MARC/MARCXML, PubMed, JSON
• Knowledge of persistent identifiers such as Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and Open Researcher and Contributor IDentifer (ORCID)
• Experience using Library Services Platforms, ExLibris Alma preferred
• Experience with batch editing and scripting
• Experience with digital repositories preferred
• Knowledge of programming languages for data manipulation, such as Python, Open Refine, Ruby, Perl preferred
• Excellent communication skills, including report writing

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $36,385.89 - $86,776.38 per year
