The Linux System Engineer will provide information technology services to support a small US Federal Government agency in Washington, DC. This includes engineering services to support Linux systems & Unix based applications as well as Windows based network support services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to multi-task as well as be strategic, creative, and innovative in a dynamic, fast paced matrixed team environment.
- Install, configure, deploy, troubleshoot, patch, and performance tune both Windows and Red Hat/Ubuntu systems.
- Support Unix based applications and services
- Provide support in the Implementation and maintenance of cloud-based technologies.
- Provide design and support services for backup and recovery systems.
- Maintain logs of server events, maintenance, outages, and failures.
- Evaluate new hardware and software for compatibility with IT services.
- Participate in the testing and integration of all new or modified infrastructure operations to include migration to new FHFA standards.
- Maintain documentation to include, but not limited to, hardware and software logistics and asset management inventories, configurations, network charts, and cabling diagrams.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & CERTIFICATIONS:
- Ten (10) years of experience performing systems engineering duties with the technologies listed below:
- Windows, Linux & Cloud Environments: Red Hat/Ubuntu systems, NetBackup, Metallic, Commvault
- Unix Based Applications & Services (Postfix, DNS, NIS, NFS, CIFS, SMB, Syslog, etc.)
- Linux-Related Scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.)
- Virtual Environments: Amazon Web Services (e.g., AWS Backup, Cloudfront, VPC, API Gateway, EC2, RDS), VMWare (ESX, VCenter v5.5 & 6.0, VSphere v5.5 & 6.0), Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop & Netscaler
- Security Benchmarks: (CIS, DISA, etc.)
- Windows OS & Server Environments: Microsoft Window Server (Server 2016 & 2019), SQL Server, Active Directory, PowerShell Scripting, DHCP, DNS, File Server Services, Internet Information Service (IIS), Local/Global Group Policy, Manage Engine Endpoint Central, Windows System Center Operations Manager
