Statement of Purpose: The Vice President of Legal Affairs (Counsel) works with the leaders of Sun Health. Counsel provides advice on a variety of legal matters and oversees the assignment of outside legal counsel.

Compensation: This position is exempt from overtime pay and is eligible for bonus program compensation up to 30%.

Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the chief legal advisor to the CEO, Executive leadership team and other leaders throughout the organization. Supports all functional areas and lines of business on a variety of complex legal matters.
  • Ensures Sun Health is in compliance with internal controls, statutory regulations, and other government and regulatory bodies.
  • Works closely with Corporate Compliance Officer to maintain compliance programs and training. Ensures compliance with internal controls, statutory regulations and other formalities.
  • Calculates and handle risks in business processes and decision making.
  • Demonstrates strong negotiating skills in order to manage legal and financial/commercial issues.
  • Coordinates professionally with Human Resources, Executive Leaders and outside counsel pertinent to develop and enforce company's procedures and policies.
  • Manages relationships with external counsel for litigation and business matters.
  • Establishes and oversees an Enterprise Risk Management framework to mitigate financial, operational, employment, strategic, reputational and compliance risk throughout the organization.
  • Drafts and reviews legal documents such as contracts, requests for proposals, statements, and agreements.
  • Assists in establishing an Enterprise Vendor Management program to ensure Sun Health proactively maximizes value with key vendors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the organization and across all operations.
  • Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Computer knowledge and skills, including Microsoft Office Products.
