Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist II in Surgical Oncology within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist II is responsible for the management of a medium-sized research laboratory specializing in cancer epidemiologic, health services and clinical research..
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assist in the design, coordination and conduct of research projects.
- Manage participant recruitment and enrollment in studies at CINJ and other research sites.
- Manage participant tracking database for longitudinal follow-up of participants.
- Collect patient information from electronic health record.
- Assist PI in survey development and administer surveys to study participants.
- Maintain database of participant demographics and survey responses through study’s electronic data base.
- Prepare and submit research related regulatory documents to the IRB including initial application, annual progress reports, consent forms, amendments and modifications for investigator initiated and industry sponsored clinical studies.
- Manage project timelines and coordinate with co-investigators and consultants as needed.
- Maintain records, files and laboratory research databases
- Access and utilize data from large population-based data sets, comfortable running basic statistical programs.
- Be responsible for research specimen tracking, processing, organization, and analysis.
- Maintain detailed records of all experiments and activities.
- Assist with manuscript and presentation preparations.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in a relevant science/public health plus two (2) years of related research experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) years of related research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow laboratory safety policies and perform standard laboratory procedures.
- Must possess effective oral and written communication skills and ability to publish scientific research papers/articles.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research experience in health services, epidemiology, and/or clinical research experience including work with research subjects, collection of clinical samples, clinical data and familiarity with IRB requirements and regulatory documentation, supervision of research staff and students.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Laboratory environment.
- Moderate noise.
- Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs, and possible exposure to infectious, communicable diseases, and radioactive materials.
- Universal precautions are mandatory.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
