General Summary:
The Referral and Authorization coordinator’s role is vital to providing exceptional care and supporting the OBGyn/UroGyn practice. The position demands an individual who takes pride in working with patients, provides highly personalized care, and is independent and creative at problem solving.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
This position provides support to Obstetricians, Gynecologists, Urogynecologists, mid-levels and other providers or specialists working as part of an OBGyn/UroGyn medical office team. General duties will include: obtain pre-authorization for in and out-patient procedures, medical devices, and ancillary services as ordered by providers. This position will act as a back up to the primary surgery scheduler and help to maintain doctors’ clinic and surgery schedules; managing communication and correspondence directly with staff, patients, and Practice Manager; act as liaison for specific specialist vendors; maintain exceptional communication with local hospital and outpatient facilities. Perform all other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of related medical office experience
- Prior surgery scheduling experience preferred
- Understanding and usage of medical terminology
- Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes, especially related to OBGyn/UroGyn a plus
- Expertise in effective, tactful communication skills
- Experience with and proficiency in use of electronic medical record systems
- Ability to read, write, do arithmetic, and apply reasoning skills equal to at least that of the average high school graduate.
- Proficient computer skills and accuracy of data entry
