We are currently seeking a Medical Assistant with Scribe Experience to join our team! We are currently recruiting for our San Francisco location.
To be successful in this role, you must understand medical terminology, be highly organized, analytical, and be able to work under pressure. California Pacific Orthopaedic is a medical setting and treats 55,000 patients per year.
Responsibilities as a Medical Assistant/Scribe:
Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant/Scribe operates as part of the care team performing a variety of functions such as preps patient rooms, answer patient inquiries, stock exam rooms, and relates pre and post-surgical information to the patient and or family, and transcribes Physician note’s and interactions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and wipe up any fluids and or blood that may have fallen on the floor as soon as possible using Universal Precautions at all time
- Clean and disinfect contaminated equipment and work surfaces after every patient
- Wipe down and sanitize the patient beds after each patient exposure
- Check sharps containers daily to ensure they are not full. If full red bag and set out for EVS for disposal
- Assist physician and physician assistant in exam rooms
- Escort patients to exam rooms, interviews patients
- Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant
- Ensure all related reports, labs, consults, radiology and information is available in the patients EHR medical records prior to their appointment
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, prepare sterilization as required
- Take telephone messages and provide feedback and answers to
- Patient/physician/pharmacy calls in a timely manner
- Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physicians and physician assistants in a timely manner
- Retrieve and return voicemail, tasks, e-mail and faxes
- Schedule, reschedule and cancel appointments
- Remove casts, staples, splints, sutures
- Obtain prior authorization for MRI, ESI and other studies, as well as drugs requiring prior authorizations.
- Fill out SDI, FMLA and other insurances forms
- Attend monthly meetings and training as needed
- Prepare encounter forms two days before clinic
- Call and fax prescriptions to the pharmacy when applicable
- Schedules post op appointments (initial post op appt)
- Ability to travel between 2 locations, San Rafael & San Francisco on an as needed basis
- Ability to work overtime upon request
- Must have alternative means of transportation to get to work
- Assist with front desk duties as necessary
- Log all VM’s when covering another team member
- Log all injectable from medicine cabinet
- Check monthly for expired medication and supplies
- Responsible for recording a Physician’s interactions with patients and assisting with clerical duties related to medical documentation.
- Collects patient information in real-time during office visit
- Ability to execute other duties as assigned by management and providers
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1+ years as a medical assistant or related experience
- Experience with scheduling appointments
- 1+ years’ experience as a medical transcriber
- Proficient in computers using MS Office applications and with and EHR (preferably Epic)
- Strong knowledge of clinical / medical practice operations, procedures, terminology, and administrative procedures.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and build effective relationships with internal and external customers to achieve goals.
- Strong verbal/written communication and listening skills; including excellent interpersonal skills and telephone communication.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
- Deals with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed in a clinic and office setting. Ability to accurately type, write, and use general office equipment is necessary.
