JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State University Park Airport is searching for a full time Maintenance Worker to join their team. Duties include:

  • Cut, trim, fertilize, aerify, roll, seed, mow, and water lawns, fields and safety areas, etc.; plant, transplant prune, weed, spray and cultivate flowers, trees, shrubs, etc.
  • Operate power grounds equipment such as trucks, tractors, snow plows, loaders, lawn mowers, brush cutters, power and radial saws, chain saws, pneumatic tools, etc.
  • Remove snow and ice from roads, parking areas, walks, taxiways, runways, etc.; spread chemicals and anti-skid material where necessary; drive University vehicles as required in performance of assigned duties
  • Remove brush, leaves, grass clippings, paper and debris from grounds, walks, parking areas, taxiways, runways and other University property
  • Perform minor repairs to fences such as replacing posts, re-stringing, etc.
  • Sweep driveways, parking areas, taxiways , runways, etc.; clean catch basins and road basins
  • Replace filters, lubricate and oil; adjust or replace drive belts; replace worn or defective parts; read amp, odometer gauges and record; wash and clean equipment; report any problems concerning maintenance of equipment to the Airport Operations Supervisor
  • Maintain maintenance records on various pieces of equipment which includes mileage, dates, hours, etc., at time of performance
  • Maintain parts and service manuals and basic parts inventory
  • Dig holes, trenches, post holes; clean drainage lines, sumps, etc.
  • Paint benches, fences, guard rails, shelves, sign posts, fire hydrants, refuse containers, traffic lines and areas such as walls, doors, etc.
  • Spot paint operating equipment
  • Operate mechanical spray painting equipment
  • Report needed repairs on or about buildings or grounds to the supervisor
  • Make a regular check of building to relamp and/or make minor repairs and adjustments
  • Refer serious problems to the Airport Operations Supervisor
  • Replace switch plates, wall outlets, door closures, check fire extinguishers, replace bulbs, lenses and fixtures in field lighting systems, etc.
  • Load and unload trucks, check shipments received against invoice for accuracy; inform supervisor of damage or missing items; place shipment in designated storage area
  • When necessary, assist trades person(s) in building maintenance, such as sawing boards, digging holes, carrying various tools and materials such as drills, saws, pipes conduit, etc.
  • Install fire extinguishers, blackboards, shelves, etc.
  • Perform minor maintenance such as replacing damaged ceiling tiles, securing and replacing hardware on doors, windows, cabinets, etc.
  • Perform minor adjustments to doors such as lubricating rollers, reattaching or repairing door guides, etc.
  • Repair screens and broken window glass
  • Unlock and lock building entrances and room doors; close and lock windows; turn out lights; replace burned out light bulbs
  • Assist in setting up and rearranging designated areas such as classrooms, conference center, etc.
  • Move furniture, equipment and material as required
  • Clean assigned areas of buildings including hallways, stairs, offices, classrooms, laboratories, toilet rooms, stockrooms, lounges, utility rooms, etc., using methods and materials specified by the supervisor
  • Mop, sweep, clean and wax floors
  • Clean and scrub carpets
  • Operate various types of powered janitorial equipment, i.e. floor buffing machines, vacuum cleaners, etc.
  • Occasionally direct the work of part-time employees as required.

Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. PA Certified Applicators License, categories 6, 7, and 14 preferred. Over 3 months up to and including 12 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 1:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

NOTE: APPLICANT IS REQUIRED TO UNDER GO A SECURITY THREAT ASSESSMENT (STA) AND FINGER-PRINT BASED FBI CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD CHECK (CHRC) THAT DISCLOSES WHETHER THE APPLICANT HAS A DISQUALIFYING OFFENSE. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.

This position is part of the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 8 and has a starting hourly wage of $20.42.
