Essential functions and Responsibilities

• Jig Grinder Specialists must monitor the machining process, know when and be able to make adjustments to the settings as needed per blue print dimensions.
• Pick up x-y-z and input on work off sets (for CNC only).
• Program per model or Blue print (for CNC only).
• Download program to the control (for CNC only).
• Choose the appropriate tool for the application.
• Check dimensions on blue print to set the appropriated measurement equipment.
• Run first piece, inspect and verify if dimensions are correctly, do corrections on the cutter compensation and length compensation.
• They need to be able to address and correct error messages or mechanical breakdowns on the machine by performing basic machine maintenance when required.
• Maintain room at specific temperature in order to achieve good results on sizes.
• Must decide on the type and size of wheel to use on each job depend on the type of material, the method of holding the work piece in the machine( set up ), along with the selection feeds and rpm settings to be the most efficient in the machining process.
• They must decide what adjustments need to be made to location and size after first piece inspection.
• Read blueprints and work with very close tolerances + or - .0001. Have your personal measuring tools.

Skills

CNC and conventional grinders and operators must have excellent mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment, machine tools and grinding wheels. In addition to having strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, they must have good analytical skills and be able to read and understand blueprints and mechanical drawings. And most important, know how to use precision measurement tools such Micrometer, Calipers, Indicator, Height gauges, Drop Indicators, Depth Micrometers.

Jig grinders know how to choose the right wheel for the right material to always achieve good finishing surfaces and reparability on sizes and tool life.

Verbal communication, Functional and Technical Skills, Tooling, Good knowledge on Computers and calculators.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum high school diploma or GED. Post-high school, technical school/apprenticeship preferred. Minimum of 5 years of work experience. CNC background a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Indoor, clean, climate controlled, somewhat noisy at times preferable no noise except the machine, minimum air blasts, machines and vacuum systems. They will also come in contact with machining coolant fluids such as lube oil, cooling oil.
