Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of the Counseling Center provides leadership, vision and management direction for the professional services that address the developmental and mental health needs of Rensselaer students. The Director is responsible for the administration, planning and evaluation of mental health programs and services and provides direct clinical and consultation services as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Psychiatrist who has completed an accredited psychiatric residency
• Five (5) years of directly related experience including demonstrated administrative experience including supervisory, financial management, and strategic planning
• Licensed to practice in New York State
• Candidate is Board Certified or Eligible

Applicants must meet stated minimum education and experience requirements.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to assess and provide for the day-to-day needs of mentally, emotionally and/or developmentally disabled patients
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with healthcare providers
• Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the patient
• Ability to assess mental status in patients and to develop individual treatment goals and plans
• Demonstrated leadership skills, especially the ability to establish standards of quality, to communicate those standards clearly, and to assess personnel based on those standards
• Requires strong clinical skills and judgment
• Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
• Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
• Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal form
• Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals

Business Hours with weekends or evenings occasionally required
