Director of Behavioral Health: Jefferson Health New Jersey


Under the general supervision of the Vice President of Ambulatory Operations and in collaboration with the Chief of Psychiatry and the Medical Director of Ambulatory Behavioral Health, the Senior Director of Behavioral Health serves as the strategic and operational leader for Jefferson Health’s Behavioral Health service line in New Jersey to ensure that care is of high quality and that value is aligned and integrated across the system. This position assumes the leadership for behavioral health related strategic growth, business development, and service building initiatives across the New Jersey Division of Jefferson Health. Develops new models of care which improve outcomes (improved quality and experience, and more affordable care), as well as models that enhance access, convenience, and affordability for patients. Serves as the divisional service line leader to improve employee alignment and engagement, and for employee relations.


Responsibilities:


  • Provides leadership to Jefferson Health New Jersey’s behavioral health service line’s improvement efforts to ensure the widespread deployment of evidence-based practice for safe, effective, equitable, patient-centered and efficient care.
  • Develops innovative solutions, key working relationships, continuity of vision, coordination, and operational linkages so that the behavioral health service line in New Jersey collaborates effectively with other service lines and divisions to achieve benchmark clinical, operational, financial, and employee engagement results.
  • Leads the development of the culture within the service line that focuses on high quality care and a positive experience for patients, new models of care, innovation, and satisfying and sustainable practices for clinicians and teams.
  • Establishes division-wide/market specific behavioral health strategies, service offerings, and clinical programs.
  • Evaluates, develops, and adapts the business processes of the behavioral health service line in New Jersey to meet the ever-changing healthcare environment and needs of patients and families.
  • Provides overall direction of the service line business component of the practice, including revenue cycle management (charge capture, coding, billing, denials, and compliance) and policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for all financial aspects of the practices within the service line, including budget development, cost analysis and management. Analyzes, consolidates, and interprets financial reports across the service line.
  • Partners with divisional leadership to develop short-and long-range strategic plans, operating and capital budgets and an integrated strategic and financial plan. Develops and communicates the vision and annual goals for the behavioral health service line to ensure alignment with overall system direction.
  • In partnership with dyad partners (Chief of Psychiatry and Medical Director of Ambulatory Behavioral Health), builds trust and community among physicians, APPs and other clinical staff and provides overall vision, strategy, and direction for the service line in New Jersey.
  • Creates and measures business and clinical outcomes with respect to the provision of clinical support for practice transformation, focusing on quality and operational efficiencies across the organization.
  • Responsible for programmatic growth, physician recruitment, alignment, or acquisitions.
  • Coordinates with the enterprise service line leaders to identify clinical and non-clinical technology, software, and equipment needs in support of the service line.
  • Develops and implements clinical process reliability and efficiency plans. Identifies resources for patient care and programmatic development
  • Partners with Enterprise service line leadership to implement clinical standards and programs and new programs and services, in an efficient/cost effective manner to provide a unified approach to care delivery.
  • Partners with Jefferson Health New Jersey’s Philanthropic Team to establish giving goals, resources, and support to annual giving as well as identify larger gifts.
  • In partnership with the New Jersey Business Development Committee, develops market expansion plans and new programs in response to innovation, technology, clinical needs, and strategy.
  • Collaborates with both inpatient and ambulatory leadership across Jefferson Health New Jersey to assure high quality, seamless transitions of care between inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Partners with population health leaders across the enterprise to develop more robust approaches to care coordination.
  • Continually innovates to lead locally and nationally to transform the service line toward measurable “quadruple aim” results.
  • Leads, mentors, and provides resources and training opportunities to foster professional growth and development of Jefferson New Jersey’s behavioral health workforce
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory, legal, reimbursement changes and industry trends. Establish appropriate registries, certifications, and external benchmarks.


Minimum Experience:


  • Master’s degree in health or hospital administration, business administration or a related field
  • At least five (5) years of experience as a practicing clinician
  • At least five (5) years of experience as a leader in a matrixed healthcare environment
  • Experience working with value-based care models, care transformation, and strategic growth
  • Certification/Licensure: Licensed Clinician in the state of New Jersey desirable
