Position Description
The Policy team seeks to advance the mission of Harris County Precinct 4 through thorough research, analysis, development, and implementation of public policy surrounding criminal justice relevant to our constituents. Research and advocacy is grounded in principles of racial, social and economic equity, primarily focused in fields of access for affordable and quality health care, criminal justice reform, economic equity and opportunity, voting rights, affordable housing, and environmental and climate justice.
Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will gather, review, and conduct analysis on data to ensure the effectiveness of programs within the criminal justice system.

You may be asked to identify risks, recommend strategies, and provide support to adjust or develop new criminal justice policies.

Your duties may require you to research criminal trends, look over statistics, determine jail efficiency, review jail management, and serve on relevant committees.

Performing skilled and highly detailed research on various issues and specific interests around criminal justice while working with Precinct 4 specific groups is a vital part of this role.

You will attend meetings, hearings, and functions as a Precinct 4 liaison.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in policy, public administration, public affairs, political science, law, economics, research science, or a related field of study with a focus on criminal justice.
-
Experience analyzing data, trends, policies, and programs that involve criminal justice and/or juvenile justice populations (Experience may substitute for education)

Three (3) years’ experience in policy analysis, related government experience or other areas of analysis
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Proficiency in Microsoft software applications to include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
-
Knowledge of local, state, and federal government operations including legislation, regulatory guidance, budget and policy development relevant to the criminal justice field

Ability to perform highly skilled research and policy analysis
-
Highly skilled in written communication and the ability communicate complex issues succinctly and professionally

Ability to apply logic and critical thinking to evaluate issues to identify strengths and weaknesses and offer various options, solutions, and approaches

Ability to work in and facilitate cross-functional teams
-
Ability to identify and apply best practices towards County policies and programs
