Direct Support Professionals are responsible for providing support to program participants that meets their needs, provides opportunities for community inclusion and creates a nurturing, safe and healthful living environment. D, irect Support Professionals will frequently interact with program participants and so must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration.

Who We Are Looking For:

• Someone who will maintain Right Response Certification, including both elements and advanced curriculum.
• Someone who will provide positive behavior supports to clients under extreme conditions, such as prolonged loud noise and physical aggression, and provide necessary interventions to prevent significant client injury due to self-harm.
• Is at least 18 years of age
• Has a High School Diploma or GED
• Has at least six months experience working in social services or relevant field
• Has a Washington State Driver’s license able to be covered on Alpha Supported Living
  Services’ automobile insurance plan based upon driving record
• Completes a successful background inquiry clearance from an authorized state agency

What Your Day Will Look Like:

• Work in a single-person household alongside one or more additional staff
• Frequently interact with program participants
• Act in accordance with the principles and values expressed in the Residential Guidelines and uphold the agency mission “to serve individuals with developmental disabilities by providing accessible residential and other support services that will maximize each person’s quality of life.”
• Work as directed by the shift assigned by the Program Supervisor or the Site Supervisor

This position required additional/specialized training which includes:

To be completed within 90 days of hire (in addition to 75-hour DSP curriculum):

• Right Response Day 1 & 2

At least one class to be completed within 180 days of hire from following class options (or an internal or external comparable training deemed appropriate by Alpha Management):

• Sensory Needs for Adult with Autism (DDA, 3 hours)
• Socialization: Living and Working Environments for Adults with Autism (DDA)
• Autism: History, Approaches and Controversies (Alpha – CE course code CE 124168)
• How to Relate to People Who are Non-Verbal (Alpha – CE course code DD-0106)
• Bridges not Barriers: How we can provide support that promotes inclusion (Alpha – CE course code 134902)

On-going Additional Training (included in 12 required CEs) must include:

• Right Response Day 2 and 2 hours of specialized training on a topic relevant to the individual they support, to be completed each calendar year, such as:
  • PBSP review/re-training and quiz
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Nonverbal Communication
  • Dual Diagnosis
  • Trauma

Starting Wage is $22.50

Wage scale is $22.50- $27.50 per hour

Benefits for Full-Time Employees (30 hours or more a week) include Medical, Dental, Vision, 403(b) (non-profit version of a 401(k)) with company match, Life Insurance, Tuition Savings Program, and Tuition Reimbursement. Employees working 34 or more hours a week are eligible for PTO accrual.
