The Anaheim Public Library seeks dynamic full-time and part-time Senior Librarians assigned to Senior Services to develop staff training, information services and collections, programming, outreach and partnerships to serve the needs of older adults. The Senior Librarian will survey the older adult community to establish needs and explore adaptive technology, services and programs. The Senior Librarian will serve as point person for system-wide library programming for older adults and collaborate with community partners and senior centers to maintain cooperative relations.
The Senior Librarian develops and provides the full range of routine to complex professional, technical and/or direct library services to the community, including development of programs and services for target audiences, and outreach programs; performs reference and in-depth research, collection development and management; identifies current community needs and projects future needs; takes initiative to assist in improving library services; and performs related work as required.
Candidates must possess a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university, and two (2) years of experience as a professional librarian.
This recruitment will be used to fill both full-time and part-time vacancies. Candidates must be available to work weekend and evening shifts.

Provides assistance to and advises patrons regarding the more complex requests and inquiries, including children, young adults, adults and senior citizens in the effective use of Library collection, facilities and services; demonstrates the use of library resources, tools, equipment, and electronic reference sources; assists with digital downloads.
Conducts effective reference interviews to assess and satisfy customer information needs.
Prepares collection development proposal for assigned unit, including print and non-print materials; researches and recommends both vendors and appropriate media format for adult and children's collections; selects books and materials for library purchase based on patron needs and awareness of various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Answers readers' advisory and complex reference questions from telephone, webpage and in person queries by accessing a variety of print and non-print resources, including electronic resources.
Participates in the selection of staff; supervise, train, prepare work schedules, assign tasks and conduct performance reviews of part-time and full-time support, paraprofessional, and part-time professional staff, and volunteers; mentors, counsels, and provides discipline to assigned staff under the guidance and direction of management and/or Human Resources.
Develops, implements, and evaluates services and programs in a designated area such as adult services, children's services, youth services, and outreach; creates new services and programs to meet the needs of a changing community.
Under parameters established by a program manager, develops a "plan of service" for assigned work unit area; establishes priorities and requirements of service delivery, including the proper allocation of resources to meet the community's needs; ensures service goals are consistent with Library and City goals.
Acts as a primary public relations or key contact person for work unit; performs outreach services to community groups and schools for adult and youth explaining Library programs and encouraging use of Library resources.
Develops training programs for public and staff in the use of print and electronic resources such as on-line catalogs, Internet, full text databases and indices; train staff for children's, teen, and adult programming, book talking and outreach services.
Recommends priorities and requirements of service delivery for assigned area of the library; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and controls expenditures.
Recommends and monitors budgets for staff, collection, supplies, and other operating categories as appropriate for the area of responsibility.
Provides complex reference and readers advisory services to patrons.
Performs bibliographic searches using both print and non-print sources.
Organizes and maintains a variety of print and digital collections.
Develops the collection in an assigned area; reviews new publications and collection materials and selects materials and resources for acquisition or disposition as appropriate.
Responds to complex and difficult suggestions, requests, or concerns from library users or community members.
May assist staff in installing reference resources; may troubleshoot and resolve minor workstation operating problems.
Performs advanced grant information research and compilation of data; develops grant programs and writes grant proposals; collects and analyzes data and draft memos and reports.
May assume operating responsibility for any Library facility or functional responsibility for a program in the absence of the program manager.
Assists in recommending and implementing policies and procedures.
May develop training guides and/or brochures for public or staff use using standard computer application software.
Oversees building maintenance and security in cooperation with other professional staff on duty.
Participates in meetings, committees, or projects intended to enhance services or promote library services and programs.
Performs special reading and research and participates in professional meetings, workshops, and conferences and continuing education programs, as appropriate to remain abreast of current literature and professional trends.
Represents the department at professional meetings as required.
Compiles and drafts library activity reports and statistics.
May be responsible for developing and presenting special cultural and holiday programs, as well as activities related to the summer reading program.
Full-time Senior Librarian will be assigned As "Librarian-in-Charge", acts as moderator in challenging patron interactions implementing and interpreting library guidelines and policy and deviating or making exceptions; resolves building malfunction and emergency maintenance issues, makes schedule adjustments for unplanned absences, and opens/closes the facility.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS – The City contracts with the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) to provide retirement benefits. Retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS.
Note: Pension contribution limitations are set by CalPERS each calendar year, with compensation limit requirements for Public Employee Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) members and Classic members. Employee contributions will be deposited into a 401(a) account after reaching this limit. Employees with CalPERS membership dates prior to July 1, 1996 are not impacted by these limits.
