Job Summary

The Research Finance Specialist provides support to the Office of Research Finance in order to ensure the timely and accurate reporting of financial data and compliance. The Research Finance Specialist will process financial transaction requests for sponsored programs and will assist the research accountants with resolution on expenditure issues associated with sponsored programs. The Specialist will also work on accounts receivable resolution and preparation of invoices to support sponsor billings.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or similar field and one (1) or more years of progressively responsible business experience

Relevant combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to become proficient with Federal and State regulations pertaining to grants and contracts
• Knowledge of or ability to learn about Sponsored Program policies and regulations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established goals and objectives
• Ability to work with a diverse population.

Job Duties

• Review all items that are received into the post-award mailbox. Evaluate inquiries and take appropriate action or refer to appropriate staff member.
• Ensure receipt of all labor verification within required deadlines. Create and execute list of actions required for non-receipts, escalating to Associate Director when necessary to ensure completion.
• Ensure timely processing of all FTRs/FUPLOADS ensuring that transactions are within the period of performance and adequate funding is available. Follow escalation process for any items that cannot be completed.
• Segregate invoices by sponsor for distribution to Research Accountant (RA). Send invoices to sponsors using standard communication format. Assist RAs with invoices that require no additional supporting back up.
• Ensure all non-salary cost transfers are processed following approval by the Associate Director.
• Run OBIEE reports, ensuring patent and equipment inquiry information is completed. Work closely with Research Accountants to process closeout of awards.
• Support Research Finance cash management process through timely follow up on grants accounts receivables. If necessary, prepare dunning letters and provide leadership information for accounts that require write off.
• Prepare 30-60-90 day emails notifications to PI’s for awards that are close to the end of the award lifecycle. Ensure no-cost extensions are submitted timely.
