Project Engineering Manager Job Description*

United is looking for a Project Engineering Manager in our Transmission & Distribution group. Candidate will be working as part of a multi-discipline team of Engineers and Designers at the Greenwood Village, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Mt. Laurel, NJ office to manage design teams for high voltage substations or modifications to existing substations for utility clients. Oversight of technical work will include preparation of equipment, bus and grounding calculations and specifications, and preparation of design documents. Design documents could include physical arrangement drawings, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, cable schedules, single-line, and wiring diagrams. Documents shall be prepared in accordance with NESC and Utility requirements. Supervisory work will include leading and monitoring work done by other engineers and designers, and preparation of budgets, schedules and cost estimates for substation projects. Candidate will lead a Project Team and will coordinate disciplines, clients, vendors, and contractors.

Minimum Qualifications:*

  • B.S. in Electrical or Engineering from a 4-year accredited university with course work in electrical power systems and energy conversion
  • 8 years overall experience in electrical power engineering working on power or heavy industrial facilities
  • 5 years’ experience in engineering and design of high voltage substations for U.S. Utilities. Experience to include preparation of calculations and specifications for electrical substation equipment and preparation of substation design drawings.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience leading a group of engineers/designers on power projects
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship for U.S. Citizenship is not available.
  • Good written and oral communication skills. Must have experience working in a Team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Professional Engineering License from any State in the U.S. with the ability to get licensed in other States by Comity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management
  • Experience performing walk-downs at Utility Substations

Pay: $140,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
