The Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of all components of all quality assurance programs within the assigned department and/or unit. Provides ongoing quality assurance support and resource information to the medical directors and administrators, ensuring compliance. Collects, audits, tracks, and analyzes health care data. Coordinates and performs staff education on topics related to quality assurance/performance improvement.
Summary of Essential Duties:
Establishes the implementation of the quality assurance plan for the department and/or unit. Utilizes appropriate resources, literature and clinical expertise when establishing and reviewing criteria. Ensures that criteria meets regulatory, accreditation and licensing requirements.
- Assists in the development of criteria to evaluate and measure potential risks for the assigned department and/or unit.
- Develops and recommends corrective action plans to be implemented when indicator measurement is below predetermined threshold.
- Responsible for continual growth and improvement of the quality assurance process to keep abreast of latest trends and practices in the industry.
- Manages a central processing system by which quality assurance data is collected, analyzed and reported.
- Develops and standardizes reports, questionnaires, and conducts comparative studies, data analysis and interpretation.
- Ensures that appropriate actions are taken, documented and are in accordance with appropriate guidelines and/or regulatory requirements
- Provides inservice education and training to staff on documentation requirements essential for accurate data collection and reporting quality measures.
- Participates in departmental activities that improve processes and efficiency and reduce waste.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required
Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred
License/Certification:
Current, unrestricted California RN license required
Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred
BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association preferred
A minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience required
A minimum of 1 year of experience in quality improvement/peer review role strongly preferred
Experience in Patient Safety preferred
