The Alpine Resort is a historic Door County Wisconsin stay and play destination, located just south of Egg Harbor. The property encompasses nearly half a mile of shoreline, with picturesque bluffs, stunning waterfront along Lake Michigan’s Green Bay, one of Door County’s most scenic golf courses, and the iconic resort itself.
The Alpine is a historic resort with a special 100-year history. Under new management, plans are in place to restore the main lodge, improve the golf course, and rejuvenate the waterfront. Future expansion plans will offer a variety of dining and lodging accommodations, as well as other recreational activities along the waterfront.
Position Summary
The Landscape and Grounds Manager is responsible for coordination and execution of grounds design, layout and general upkeep. This role may also directly perform tasks involving the completion. The person in this position may operate a variety of hand and power tools, clean and prepare sites, assist with special event set up and services and other duties as assigned based on business needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- This position is ultimately responsible for maintaining and preserving the beauty, health, and landscape design integrity of the resort grounds.
- As Landscape and Grounds Manager, the position entails collaboration and coordination with landscape architect and other team members on resort-wide development plans, designs, and timed installations
- Horticulturist duties include but not limited to, the observation and health care of plants and soil throughout the property, plant cultivation, pest and disease control, watering and drainage conditions, tree/shrub/perennial pruning, seasonal garden and container rotations, and anything else related to maintaining the health and beauty of the plant materials throughout the designed landscapes and gardens
- Hires, supervises, schedules, reviews, and trains assigned employees; conducts staff meetings; trains staff on equipment usage, proper soil and plant care techniques, and safety requirements; keeps employee records; evaluation of employees; administrative duties
- Liaison between Management, Administration, and outside contractors for project development
- Manages Grounds Department budgets, and allocates expenditures properly
- Determines equipment needs, manages physical resources, procures necessary tools, materials, and equipment
- Manages, coordinates, and facilitates outside contractors hired as needed
- Winter duties will include to removal of snow and ice from property – maintaining safety for customers, employees and vendors
- Purchase and application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides
- Orders and purchases seasonal plant materials, replacement plants, new plants, mulch, and other necessary landscape materials
- Maintaining a clean job site; picking up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards
- Loading and unloading trucks and hauling and material handling and storage
- Performing required maintenance of equipment
- Reading and interpreting safety/employment manuals and other work-related documents
- Complying with safety regulations and a maintaining clean and orderly facility
- Ensuring that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed; bringing problems to the attention of Management as well as HR
- Performing other work-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- ·Must possess a valid and appropriate state driver’s license
- Minimum 5 years related horticulture experience
- Equivalent Combination of related education and/or experience that enables performance of all job duties and responsibilities
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
- Ability to work outdoors, in varying weather conditions
- Ability to bend, squat, climb, push and pull
- Must have unrestricted and insurable driving record
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
