CEF is a non-profit organization operating in Durham and Orange Counties that supports people experiencing homelessness or financial insecurity. We work alongside approximately 250 volunteers and 3,000 members in their pursuit of employment, secure housing, and financial stability. Position Summary:
The Staff Support (SS) position is a member of our program staff and will hold in-person hours in both CEF offices. This position contributes to our Member Services and Advocate Programs by providing in-office support for volunteer Advocates and Members during a set number of office hours each week. During those hours, the SS will be focused on the delivery of quality, relationship-based services, as well as promoting office policies and boundaries. The SS is a member of both the Durham & Chapel Hill staff teams.

Responsibilities :

In-Office Support for Members and Advocates (90%)

  • Provide in-office staff support for volunteer Advocates and Members, ensure delivery of quality Member services, and promote office policies and boundaries, especially regarding emotional and physical safety.
  • Support general office operations with other staff members including mail, phones, walk-ins, scheduling, member surveys, Safe Savings transactions, etc.
  • Contribute to weekly case-conferencing at team meetings to provide support when navigating complex or crisis situations.
  • Provide excellent relationship-based care coordination for CEF Members.
  • Support the Office & Community Organizer with any duties to ensure COVID-19 and safety protocols are followed by staff, volunteer Advocates, and Members.
  • Conduct pre-office hour team meetings with staff and volunteer Advocates and relay any pertinent information (Durham only).

CEF Team Member (10%)

  • Actively participate in CEF staff meetings, team meetings, caucuses, retreats, book clubs, and organizational decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with team members when necessary.
  • Engage actively in efforts to improve CEF’s outcomes, impact, and methodologies.
  • Embody CEF values and guiding principles, participate meaningfully in meetings, work collaboratively with coworkers, and engage in CEF in ways that are informed by social justice frameworks including, but not limited to relationship-based support, trauma-informed care, harm-reduction, and motivational interviewing.
  • Follow CEF financial procedures, including timely reporting of expenses, clear communication around debit card needs, and participation in budget creation.

Relevant Skills & Qualifications:

  • The ability to work well with people across race, class, gender, sexual orientation, ability status, education level, religion, and other diverse identities and experiences.
  • Experience doing direct service work preferable, with preference given to someone with direct experience working with people who have experienced homelessness.
  • Self-motivated, with exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail, with the ability to follow through on many simultaneous projects.
  • Availability for regular evening hours, particularly 5-7 pm on Tuesday-Thursdays, and occasional weekend hours to accommodate volunteer schedules.
  • Experience with technology and willingness to learn new technologies including but not limited to Salesforce, Google Suite, Slack, and Asana.
  • Creative, comfortable taking initiative, and works well on a team.
  • Bilingual or bicultural skills are preferred but not required.

Compensation:
This is a full-time, salaried position and candidates should expect to work an average of 32 hours/week in the office, remaining hours will be used for team meetings which may be remote. Annual salary is $40,000/year and this position is eligible for 100% employer-paid health insurance; a 401(k) plan with 4% employer match; optional employee-paid dental and vision; paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave; life insurance; and a professional development stipend. All CEF staff are expected to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and submit weekly negative test results.
